The interior design of a space is done right if the space gives you a feeling of its purpose. For example, if you get a homey and comfortable feeling when you enter your house, or you love to work in your work space/office, or there are certain public spaces that are so beautiful that these attract you this depicts that the interior design of those spaces is done right.
Scope of Interior Design:
Interior Design not only addresses the room decor but also its functionality and structural needs. The Interior Design Solutions are the ones which are visually appealing and at the same time acknowledge the occupants needs and improve their quality of life.

In Commercial Interior Design four main things are focused; type of people who will use the space, their collective and individual needs, their preferences, and their safety. The Interior Design of a library cannot be similar to that of a cafe'.
Interior Design As Carrier:
The Interior Design emerged as a profession in the Early 20th century and it is evolving since then. In the past, the interior design of any building banked solely on the instincts of the Architect or the users. In case of homes, the primary role of the interior designer was normally played by the home owners or other occupants.
It is a common miss-conception that Interior Design is just about creating warm, comfortable and interesting spaces for other people. While in reality it is much more than that.
Actually Interior Design is all about Optimizing the Space functionally and aesthetically in ways that the space becomes Inviting and Efficient along-with the other traits.
A person having good visualization abilities, creativeness, planning and research skills, good communication skills, and a degree in the respective field qualifies as an Interior Designer. The services of an Interior Designer depend upon their education, experience, and certifications.
An Architect having these abilities can also work in the field as an Interior Designer as both the fields go hand in hand in any project. The services of an Interior Designer normally include the following;
Researching and Analyzing the Client's Needs
Setting the Project Objectives
Educating the Client throughout the Project
Drawing and Design
Formulating Initial Plans of the Spaces
Ensuring Creativeness along-with the building codes and safety policies
Choosing the right Color Combinations
Selection of Materials and Fabrics
Providing the estimated project budget
Coordinating with the construction schedule
Organizing the whole team
Working Strategy of Interior Designer:
Understanding the Space is the first thing that an Interior Designer will consider while designing. For example, in case of a house interior design the designer will first consider the overall space, then individual spaces of each room and their inter-connections. Same is the case in commercial building interior design. Now the question is what does a designer considers when he/she wants to understand the space?
The first thing is to observe is the space dimensions and how it was constructed
Next work out the space limitations and potentials
Find out the purpose of the space
After understanding the space the designer considers the Practical Considerations. The practical considerations for a room interior design are;
Seating Arrangement/Bed Position
Identifying other needs like storage space or work space
Health and Safety Concerns
Any Psychological or Behavioral Needs of the client
Environmental Impact of the Design
Choosing the fabrics
Final step of the Interior Deign is setting a budget and a timeline. This is the most important step of the design phase. The designer should be aware of the client's budget requirements and deadline. He/She should recommend the finishes and other details according to the client's requirements.
In order to understand how an Interior Designer works here is an example;
Suppose that an Interior Designer is hired to design a waiting area of the office. The client usually just explains general things as requirement like the number of seating required, color combination preference, etc. The rest is to the designer that how he/she perceives the space and educate the client further.
A good Interior Designer will first consider the mood of the space that is when a person enters the waiting area it should be inviting, interesting, and comfortable. Next the designer will differentiate between the sitting space, reception waiting space, and circulation space. Then he/she will layout the basic floor plan such that the foot traffic moves naturally from the reception/check-in area to the waiting area and from the waiting area towards the internal offices.
After designing the proper layout plan then designer with the consent of the client finalizes the materials, finishes and lighting details.
Difference Between Interior Designer & Interior Decorator:
There is common misconception that the Interior Designer and Interior Decorator are one in the same things. Well, in reality, these are related but significantly different from each other.
The Interior Decorator is a person who decorates the space with colors and fabrics; making it visually more appealing. Decorators arrange objects such as art, photos, pillows, floral arrangements, and other things using what already is available. Interior decorating is strictly about the art.
The Interior Designer however are the ones who provide creative solutions for the space design. They have technical expertise on the subject and vast experience about the space design. The main goal of an Interior Designer is to improve the quality of life of occupants as well as surroundings. Interior Design is actually a beautiful blend of arts and science both to produce creative solutions for space designing.
